The Ukrainian market has a small share of imported vegetables and fruits. Now the state does not need food supplies, which is why a possible embargo on products from Poland will not affect supply.

This was stated by Svetlana Litvin, an analyst at the Ukrainian Agricultural Business Club, in a comment to reporters. She noted that Ukraine itself grows a lot of vegetables.

Even in 2022, the state grew 7.5 million tons of various vegetables, not counting potatoes, when a significant part of the territory of Ukraine came under Russian occupation. During this period, about 140 thousand tons of vegetables of various types were imported from Poland.

According to her, the share of imported Polish vegetables amounted to no more than 2% of the total capacity of the Ukrainian market. Until now, Turkey remains the main supplier of vegetables after the termination of the Black Sea Grain Agreement.

— Ukraine was able to independently grow a sufficient amount of these vegetables, almost completely compensating for the lost vegetable growing in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. There is no immediate need for supplies for any type of vegetable, — the analyst believes.

At the same time, the volume of fruit supplies from Poland in 2022 amounted to only 4 thousand tons. This does not have a significant impact on the Ukrainian market, the expert noted. Poland has similar natural and climatic conditions, so harvesting occurs almost simultaneously.

However, the situation is different with Turkey, which has the ability to grow vegetables in greenhouses without heating throughout the year. According to her, it is precisely because of this factor that the volume of supplies from the country increases in the winter-autumn period.
