Significant changes are being prepared in the Ukrainian education system. After several years of interruption caused by the war, the state is gradually returning to the idea of comprehensive assessment of schoolchildren's knowledge.

Return of the State Final Attestation in Ukraine: Changes
In the coming years, they are planning to return the State Final Attestation in Ukraine for 9th grade students. It is planned to be held in the format of external independent assessment. This was reported by the head of the Ukrainian Center for Education Quality Assessment Tatyana Vakulenko in a podcast What's going on with NUSh?

“There are such plans, and this is an issue that will be considered gradually in the coming years,” Vakulenko noted.
She added that the return of the State Final Attestation is part of a larger reform of the assessment of academic achievements. Such a system, according to her, will allow an objective assessment of the level of knowledge of students in basic schools and will help them consciously choose their future direction of study.
The introduction of this model will be gradual and will require preparation and consultation with the educational community.
When will the State Final Attestation be returned to Ukraine?
According to the budget declaration for 2026-2028, the new assessment system will be launched in several stages:
- in 2026 – pilot testing for 2 thousand ninth-graders;
- in 2027 – expansion of testing for 5 thousand students;
- in 2028, all 9th grade students (more than 388.5 thousand people) will take part.
