On July 1, Russia took over the leadership of the UN Security Council on a rotating basis and will likely use this to project power in the international system, as it has historically.
This is reported by analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
ISW analysts recall that during Russia's presidency in April 2023, it promoted several narratives regarding its desired influence in the international system. Russia also uses its veto power in the UN Security Council as a basis for projecting power.

A number of senior Russian officials have launched information campaigns designed to deflect responsibility for Russia's documented violations of international law during the war in Ukraine. ISW analysts believe that this is being done just before Russia’s chairmanship of the UN Security Council.
Recall that on April 24, Russia vetoed the UN resolution banning the use and deployment of nuclear weapons in space.
In October 2023, the UN General Assembly did not support the election of Russia as a permanent member of the UN Human Rights Council.
