Will be priority targets: what air defense systems are the Russians moving to Crimea Alina Burtseva

The Russians deployed elements of the S air defense system in the temporarily occupied Crimea -500. This complex has officially begun to be produced in serial form in 2021. That is, it has not yet been used in real combat conditions.

Aviation expert Bogdan Dolintse told Channel about this, noting , that the use of some elements of this air defense system may be important for the enemy. Everything to at least test the complex and check the numbers that are written on the papers. By the way, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Moscow Region announced the deployment of S-500 elements on the peninsula.

Why does the enemy need S-500 units in Crimea

“The Russians often like to exaggerate the technical nature in order to at least partially confirm them in real combat conditions,” Dolince said.

S-500 air defense system – not a classic anti-aircraft complex defense. This is directly the so-called missile defense complex. Its main task is destruction of intercontinental ballistic missiles and corresponding objects in near outer space.

That is, this system was designed specifically to counter targets at high altitude. We are talking about 200 kilometers above Earth level.

“Most likely, there are no such targets for such a complex on the territory of Crimea, because Ukraine does not have such weapons and such means of destruction,” said the aviation expert.

That is why the enemy can use separate parts or elements < /strong>S-500 interactions. This may be quite logical, because such an air defense system is integrated into a unified air defense system for exchanging data with other systems. For example, S-300 and S-400.

Invaders can use S-500 radars for target detection and missile tracking.

Radar station for S-500 more powerful than the S-400. Its range, as the enemy claims, is supposedly 150 – 200 kilometers more. So the Russians may be trying to compensate for the loss of A-50 AWACS aircraft. Everything to monitor the airspace over the territory of Ukraine and accompany their missiles from the S-300 and S-400 launchers.

In addition, the invaders can also use command posts to the S -500. They can also work in a unified system for data exchange and air defense control.

First of all, this may indicate that the enemy is now beginning to There will be a shortage of these elements of the complexes. We are talking directly about the so-called antenna complexes, which have appropriate radar systems for detecting and tracking targets. The launchers will probably also be one of the priority targets, as well as their command posts and antenna systems, says Dolince.

Strikes on temporarily occupied Crimea

  • On the night of June 12, the Ukrainian military struck one enemy S-300 anti-aircraft missile division near Belbek. And also for two S-400 anti-aircraft missile divisions near Belbek and Sevastopol. As a result of the attack, two radars of the complexes were destroyed.
  • Ukrainian defense forces attacked Russian air defense systems on the peninsula on the night of June 10. Successful strikes were on S-300 and S-400. Enemy ammunition detonated.
  • In addition, two Russian radar stations were damaged in Crimea on the night of June 7.
