Will American Ukrainians Influence the Election Results in the “Swing” States: BBC Analysis Vladislav Kravtsov

Americans of Ukrainian descent are actively watching the presidential campaign and possible election results. The extent to which America will support our country in the confrontation with Russia directly depends on this.

The fate of each candidate now depends on the results in 7 so-called “shaky” states, and Ukrainian Americans may have an influence on the course of the elections. This was reported by 24 Channel with reference to the BBC article.

How Ukrainians in “swing” states can influence the elections

Journalists reported that in Philadelphia, 190 kilometers northeast of Washington, about a hundred activists with blue and yellow flags gathered on the stairs that became recognizable thanks to the film “Rocky”.

Demonstration organizer Mary Kalina, the daughter of Ukrainian migrants who moved to the United States after World War II, noted that the issues at stake for Ukraine are existential.

Interesting! Philadelphia is located in the key swing state of this election, Pennsylvania. According to national polls, the gap between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump there is so small that a victory in this state could actually be the key to the White House for one of the candidates.

There are 120,000 Ukrainian-Americans living in this state. And that's more than the number of people whose votes were decisive in the previous two elections. So we have the potential to be very influential, Mary Kalina said.

The woman also noted that although many Ukrainian-Americans traditionally prefer Republicans, she hopes that Kamala Harris will win on November 5.

Mary Kalina recalled that it was Harris who promised to work to ensure Ukraine's victory in the war.

Please note! Pennsylvania is also home to more than 700,000 Polish-Americans, who traditionally support the Republican Party. However, more and more of these voters are concerned about increasing Russian aggression and the likely decline in support from the United States, so they may support the Democrat.

Since the race between candidates in the state is extremely tight, even a few thousand votes could be decisive in determining the outcome of the election.

Roman Strakovsky, who moved to the United States from Kyiv when he was a child, noted that he knows many people who voted for Republicans all their lives, but now came to the polls to support Harris.

“I believe that there is a real risk that if Trump is elected, support for Ukraine will either completely disappear or be significantly reduced,” Roman emphasized.

Journalists noted that the results of the upcoming US elections could significantly affect the level of support Ukraine may receive in the future.

At the same time, the candidates' promises regarding war against Ukraine during the race could affect who exactly becomes the next American president.
