UN is ignoring investigation into Iran's supply of drones to Russia. In fact, even if the UN starts such an investigation, it will not be effective.
This Channel 24 was told by political scientist Andrey Vigirinsky. Earlier it was reported what the exchange of Russia and Iran means.
The investigation will be ineffective
Vigirinsky noted that the UN General Assembly can conduct research and then make recommendations. If an investigation is the same as a study, then all the UN can do about it is to advise Iran: “Don't supply Russia with drones.” However, Iran will say that there is no evidence, we do not supply drones to Russia, so the investigation will be completely ineffective.
We have problems in worldview in terms of concepts. The investigation must end with a certain trial, accusation and punishment, this is similar to criminal cases. But at the UN level, punishment is unlikely or even impossible. The only thing is that it can be sanctions, but the last time at the UN level, sanctions were imposed in 2005-2006 against Iran and Libya, but they were lifted in a few years, the political scientist noted.

Investigation procedure
He continued that in general, if the General Assembly votes for such an investigation, it is possible. However, questions immediately arise here whether Iran will allow UN representatives to their factories, what they will see there. As a result, they will draw up a report and recommendations, and we will no longer need it in a year or two. In general, we are trying to appeal to an organization that has existed for 70 years, which should be reformed.
“The goals have changed, but the institution remains, but it is deprived of the tools to act for what it was created for. Even if the investigation takes place, one should not wait for someone to be punished in Iran, because they are not violation of global security rules. The UN is actually toothless in the face of security challenges and the possible involvement of a number of international actors in the war,” Vigirinsky stressed.
