Why a terrorist state is among you: Zelensky called for Russia to be excluded from UNESCO

by alex

Occupiers massively shelled the cities of Ukraine, in particular, enemy rockets hit cultural monuments. Zelensky called for the exclusion of Russia from the United Nations Educational Organization due to neglect of historical heritage.

On October 11, Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the UNESCO member countries. The President said that the massive shelling the day before showed that Russia has no place in this organization.

What Russia is doing in UNESCO

From the beginning full-scale offensive, the occupiers do not hide their savagery and barbarity. Zelensky is even convinced that Russia is proud of the destruction in our country.

Dear defenders of the cultural achievements of mankind, tell me why the representatives of Russia are still among you. What are they doing at UNESCO? How can there be representatives of a terrorist state in UNESCO at all,” the president said.

Zelensky also thanked the organization for all the statements and the principled position on protecting the culture of Ukraine from Russian aggression. However, according to the President, new steps are needed to strengthen our state.

A terrorist state definitely does not have the right to chair one of the key bodies for the protection of culture and natural heritage – the UNESCO committee. This devalues the institution itself, its weight and reputation,” Zelensky said.

The exclusion of Russia would be a historical example for everyone in the world that no one will tolerate enemies of culture, historical heritage, education and science.

Destruction of Ukraine's culture by the aggressor state

At about 10:00 on October 10, Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko said that infidels had launched rockets in the center of the capital. As a result, the National Shevchenko University, the Khanenko Museum, the Taras Shevchenko Museum, the Taras Shevchenko Park were damaged.

Like Zelensky, Tkachenko noted that Russia should be excluded from UNESCO. After the massive attack, he spoke with colleagues from the UK, Germany and France about this. According to the minister, one should consider, in particular, issues of assistance to Ukraine to preserve the heritage and sanctions against Russian “cultural figures”.
