The RTL publication, citing anonymous sources, claims that Andriy Melnyk's successor as Ukraine's ambassador to Germany has already been elected – he seems to be Oleksiy Makeev. It is expected that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany will officially learn about the new appointment within about two weeks.
What is known about Alexei Makeev
According to RTL, Makeev is in the diplomatic service of Ukraine since 1996. Among other things, he worked in Berlin and Bern. From 2014 to 2020, the diplomat headed the political department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and now works as a special commissioner for sanctions . According to the German media, Makeev speaks German and English very well.
Recall that the former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, during his time in office since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, repeatedly sharply criticized the German authorities .
In particular, the diplomat openly reproached Germany for the inhospitable reception of Ukrainian refugees. In addition, he noted the delay in deliveries by Berlin of the BMP Marder to Ukraine.
