The White House said that Ukraine has the tools to succeed in 2025 Nadezhda Batyuk

The US administration says that Ukraine is “grinding” Russian troops and could achieve success on the battlefield as early as 2025. This year is called the key year in the war.

This was stated by US Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer during an online conversation with the Chatham House audience on January 8, 24 Channel reports with reference to the Voice of America.

What the White House is saying about the war in Ukraine

According to Finer, Russia is achieving certain gradual successes in eastern Ukraine. However, now this has significantly less strategic importance than was expected at the beginning of the invasion.

He noted that Ukraine is in such a position on the battlefield that it is practically “grinding” the Russians and added that in order to achieve gradual successes, Russia is suffering huge losses. According to Finer, the aggressor country suffers about a thousand wounded and killed every day.

The US Deputy National Security Advisor compared Russian casualties to the number of American military casualties in Iraq and said that sometimes in two weeks of war, Russian troops lose as many soldiers as the United States lost in killed and wounded during the entire war in Iraq.

He added that the Ukrainians make the Russians “suffer for every inch of territory they gain.” According to him, Russia's successes on the battlefield on the eve of 2025 have been very limited.

What kind of assistance has the US provided to Ukraine

Fayner recalled the US assistance to Ukraine and said that over the past month additional resources have been allocated to Kyiv “to continue this success.” In addition, according to the politician, the United States has also introduced a significant set of new steps to put economic pressure on Russia.

And we have provided Ukraine with $20 billion. We are talking about access to $20 billion in revenue from Russian assets so that their economy is in a state of basic solvency on the eve of the new administration. So they have all the tools to succeed in 2025, which we have always considered a very important year in this war, says Finer.

He also stressed that it will depend on the administration of newly elected US President Donald Trump whether the United States will continue to assist Ukraine on the battlefield. However, he noted that Kyiv should independently make a decision on negotiations to end the war.

Finer explained that this is precisely the position of the current US administration and that it tried to do everything possible to strengthen Ukraine before possible negotiations with Russia.
