The President of Poland said that his country is ready to act as a guarantor of Ukraine's security. However, he explained under what conditions this is possible.

The politician made the corresponding statement during an interview with journalist Farid Zakharia. It happened on May 29 – on the 95th day of the full-scale war that Russia launched against Ukraine.

Vladimir Zelensky asked me if I agree that Poland should be one of the guarantor states of Ukraine's security. We believe that as neighbors we simply have to, – Andrzej Duda explained.

The head of state also explained that Poland would participate in this matter if:

  • Ukraine offered to be the guarantor of security and the guarantor of peace when the war was over;
  • such terms of the peace treaty would accepted.

In addition, the President of Poland explained that now his country is investing a lot of money in strengthening the army. Therefore, soon the Polish troops will become so strong and powerful that Russia will be afraid to attack.

Briefly about security guarantees: the main

  • At the end of March, negotiations between Ukraine and Russia were held in Turkish Istanbul. Then Ukraine submitted proposals to Russia on a security guarantee agreement.
  • According to them, the countries that will act as guarantors of Ukraine should act in accordance with Article 5 of NATO, which provides for the collective defense of the country in the event of an attack. Moreover, consultations should last no longer than 3 days.
  • However, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, David Arakhamia, explained that an attack on one country would not be equated with an attack on all the signatories of the treaty. After all, we are talking about security guarantees specifically for Ukraine.
  • Turkey and Poland have already declared their readiness to become a guarantor for Ukraine.
  • Subsequently, Volodymyr Zelensky explained that in addition to Turkey and Poland, the United States and Great Britain are already ready to go to negotiations on guarantees.
  • The President of Ukraine explained that representatives of future guarantor states – the United States, Great Britain, Turkey, Poland, Germany, France, Israel, confirmed the joint meeting of countries.
