What's that smoke in Kyiv

The Deputy Director of the Department of Environmental Protection noted that smoke in Kyiv and air pollution have been observed since 01:00 on September 20.

According to Dundar, most of the fires in Kyiv have been extinguished so far. But 2 hectares of forest are still burning.

— The air is currently being cleared quite slowly due to the low wind speed, — the head of the department noted.

He hopes that there will be no additional fires in Kyiv, so in the near future the residents of the capital will be able to breathe fresh air. However, the expert does not give any specific forecasts yet, because the fire has not been completely extinguished, firefighters continue to extinguish it. Specialists predict an increase in wind speed, which can speed up the purification of the air from dust and combustion products.

— As soon as the firefighters overcome the consequences of the fire, the air will be cleared. As of now, there is indeed very high pollution associated with dust, — the specialist notes.

Vladimir Dundar did not confirm a 12-fold deterioration in air quality. He noted that it is impossible to somehow differentiate this dust and determine its exact quantity.
