With the onset of winter cold, one should not expect significant changes on the front line, in particular in the East of Ukraine.
This assessment was published by the British Ministry of Defense with reference to British intelligence data.
The department noted that over the past week, intense ground battles took place on three sectors of the front:
Currently watching
- in the Kupyansk direction in the Lugansk region;
- around Avdeevka in the Donetsk region;
- on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region, where the Ukrainian military created a bridgehead.
At the same time, intelligence officials noted that “neither side has achieved significant progress in any of these areas.”
Russian troops continue to suffer particularly heavy losses in the Avdeevka area. Western officials estimate that Russia is losing between 500 and 1,000 people a day in the battle for the city.
“With the onset of cold winter weather in the East of Ukraine, significant changes on the front line are unlikely to be expected in the near future,” the intelligence agency noted.
The department, citing “eyewitness reports,” notes that small drones and artillery (especially cluster munitions) continue to play an important role in disrupting attacks on both sides.
