What can Ukraine expect if Republicans come to the US Congress: Rybachuk's opinion

by alex

Republicans can win a majority in the US Congress in the midterms. This scenario is expected to be catastrophic for Ukraine.

Republicans openly declare their intention to cut aid to our state. One thing is that if they come to power, we will stop receiving assistance – this is nonsense. Oleg Rybachuk, head of the Center for Joint Actions analytical and advocacy organization, said this to Channel 24.

Moreover, Democrat Chris Murphy recently said that Republicans seem to be ready to give Ukraine to the Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin. According to Rybachuk, this is somewhat exaggerated. It is clear that each party fights for its voters.

The domestic political struggle continues

Rybachuk stressed that Republican voters cannot imagine this terrible scenario, because this party has always been supported by the Polish diaspora, the Ukrainian diaspora back in the Reagan era. “The Republicans were a political force that stood dead against the Communists, the Soviet Union, Russia and so on. Of course, there is an internal political struggle between Democrats and Republicans for seats in the renewed Senate and Congress,” he explained.

In fact, a discussion is now flaring up within the political force:

  • Republican leader in Congress Kevin McCartney said that Ukraine cannot count endless checks in which any amounts can be entered;
  • Republican leader in the Senate Steve McConnell argued that in no case should funding for Ukraine be stopped.

The White House understands that this is not about the refusal of the Republicans in case of victory from supporting Ukraine. This is a completely unheard of scenario. Voters who support Ukraine the way they used to, including Republican voters, will not understand this at all,” Rybachuk said.

The Democrats use this to say that the Republicans want to give Ukraine to Putin. As Rybachuk emphasized, people close to the decision-makers are confident that after the elections, both Republicans and Democrats will prepare while continuing to support Ukraine. control over how these funds are used effectively. It may be less than the amount. Americans have big claims to European allies. Any correction is possible. But to say that with the victory of the Republicans in these elections, Ukraine will stop receiving assistance – this is basically nonsense, – summed up the chairman of the Center for Joint Action analytical and advocacy organization.
