Soviet should be used first
Despite the fact that the Pentagon said that this issue is still being discussed, Ukraine has in its arsenal aircraft received from the West. They are Soviet-made. About this on Channel 24 Alexander Solontai, director of practical policy programs at the Institute of Political Education.
According to him, today the Air Force uses what other countries, mainly Eastern European ones, have transmitted. They provided our pilots with the technology that they understood and that they know how to use. And this transmission will continue.
Getting more modern aircraft from partners takes time, just like it was with artillery and MLRS. Indeed, as Solontai explained, at first Ukraine received what was compatible with the existing ex-Soviet weapons, and only after that Western NATO installations.
The political scientist believes that this will be the case with aviation. For now, they give us what we know how to use, and what needs to be disposed of anyway, and then NATO aircraft will go.
In Ukraine, the remnants of the former Soviet and current Russian empires are being ground down. On both sides, both from the side of the enemy and from the side of Ukraine, virtually all Soviet weapons are being disposed of,” Solontai noted.
He explained that first the countries that transfer Soviet equipment to us will replace it with modern models, and subsequently will happen in Ukraine as well.
Technology requires skills
It is especially important that the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be able to use the equipment coming from partners. That is why Ukraine is now taking a very reasonable approach. While part of the Ukrainian military is now using Soviet equipment, the other part is learning to use modern NATO equipment at western training grounds, which they will have to work with in the future.
Consequently, it is impossible to switch to Western standards right away, because you need to hold the front right now and do it with the help of the equipment that the military knows how to use to perfection.

What kind of aircraft Ukraine needs
