— The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption is conducting an investigation into his lifestyle. In addition, I know that NABU initiated its investigation, — Kostin stated.
The Prosecutor General announced a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk. In the text, he drew attention to these circumstances, proposing to postpone discussion of the situation with Verbitsky until the results of the official investigation.
According to Kostin, only after this “will it be possible to make some decisions”. He said that Verbitsky’s removal from office at this stage is not provided for by law, because there is an official investigation ahead.
— I had a conversation with Mr. Verbitsky. He outlined to me his arguments and explanations for the situation. He is conducting a number of high-profile proceedings, the defendants of which are very interested in his removal or dismissal, — stated the Prosecutor General.
Investigation around Verbitsky: what preceded
In May, Scheme journalists found out that Deputy Prosecutor General Dmitry Verbitsky lives in a house in the elite cottage town of Konik in Kyiv, which his nephew bought by proxy from an Odessa businessman for more than 2 million UAH — which is six times less than its market value.
In June, journalists from the Schemes project found out that Verbitsky’s girlfriend Kristina Ilnitskaya became the owner of luxury property worth at least 52 million UAH in 2024, without having sufficient official income of her own for this.
After this, the Verkhovna Rada summoned Kostin to parliament for an explanation regarding Verbitsky’s property status. And NABU began an investigation.
