In Ukraine, an LGBT couple took the opportunity to apply for marriage in Diy. The response option in Dії became available in Ukraine from February 28.
One of the newlyweds, Vitaly Tsaryuk, announced on his Facebook that he had decided to apply for marriage. Tsaryuk is a member of the monitoring network of the human rights LGBT Center “Our World”.

Vitaly said that they decided to apply for marriage in Dії, since the application does not check the gender of the applicants. The couple did not cherish vain hopes and understood that they would be refused. In the end, that's exactly what happened.

“Of course, we don’t live in the world of pink ponies. The application is considered in a day, after which we will receive a refusal, and we understand this. But I really wanted to feel like an equal person a little,” Vitaly wrote.
Vitaly said that he and Viktor have already been in a relationship for seven years, but their partnership does not have any official status from the state. This means that he does not have the right to receive the results of his partner's medical examination, since these data are confidential and are disclosed only to suitors in accordance with the Family Code.
I still cannot be included in the partner's family insurance. In the event of my death, Victor will need to pay a tax of 5% of the value of my property (and in the case of a house it is very expensive), which will pass to him under a will, which must be concluded for money, which people in a registered marriage do not pay. The joint property acquired over these 7 years still does not belong to both of us. And this is a bunch of equipment, bicycles and one unfinished house, – Vitaly Tsaryuk explained.
In Dії only people of different sex can register a marriage
Mstislav Banika, head of electronic services development at the Ministry of Digital Development, confirmed in a commentary on Channel 24 that Diya does not check the partner's gender. However, only persons of different sexes can register a marriage.
“When applying for the service, Diya does not check the gender of the partner. Therefore, through Diya, persons of any gender can submit Applications for marriage. But now, according to the Family Code of Ukraine, only persons of different sexes can register marriage, so DRACS will reject the Application for marriage from persons of the same sex”, Banik said.
