On February 24, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine suspended a number of international agreements with Russia. Parliamentary delegations from many countries of the world were in the parliament hall, supporting Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor.

About this on airChannel 24Fyodor Venislavsky, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, a representative of the President in Parliament, said. According to him, this indicates that the victory of Ukraine is already close.

“We see that the world continues to support us politically, economically, and military-technically, providing the necessary weapons. We have no doubt that that victory will be in the near future, and it will ensure the liberation of our entire country from the enemy,” he is convinced.

Ukraine terminated agreements with Russia regarding the Sea of Azov

Venislavsky noted that the Verkhovna Rada terminated the latest agreements with Russia regarding the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait. The country does not adhere to any international obligations, and the norms of international law for it are the basis for propaganda statements.

We are now tearing all the legal threads that have ever connected us with the aggressor country, which provided for certain cooperation, joint military operations, and the solution of shipping issues. We see that Russia makes those decisions that are beneficial to it,” he stressed.

The representative of the president in parliament recalled that Russia declared the Sea of Azov to be its inland water body. This does not meet international standards, nor the terms of the agreements denounced by the Verkhovna Rada.

“Therefore, we systematically clean up any international ties with Russia. There cannot be any. In the future, we must be guided by generally recognized norms of international law, and the implementation of which will ensure the international community,” Venislavsky emphasized.

Rada denounced all agreements with Russia regarding the Sea of Azov

  • On February 24, the Verkhovna Rada denounced all agreements with Russia regarding the Sea of Azov. In particular, we are talking about cooperation in the use of the sea and the Kerch Strait, as well as another agreement. Both bills were supported by more than 300 people's deputies.
  • We are talking about agreements: No. 0182 – Agreement between Ukraine and Russia on cooperation in the use of the Sea of u200bu200bAzov and the Kerch Strait; No. 0183 – withdrawal from the Agreement on the Establishment of the Black Sea Group of Naval Cooperation. This group was created in early 2001, but after the occupation of Crimea by Russia, it actually ceased to exist.
  • The agreement on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait was signed on December 24, 2003 in Kerch. It entered into force on April 23, 2004.
  • Obviously, the treaty lost all meaning when Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine. Moreover, in the Russian Maritime Doctrine of July 31, 2022, there is no clause at all on the international legal regulation of the use of the Kerch Strait. The aggressor state brazenly regards the strait as a “single” maritime space.
