More than 2,500 Ukrainian heroes who defended Mariupol are captured by the Russians. Unfortunately, after the evacuation from Azovstal, contact with them disappeared.
For almost three months, the brave defenders of Mariupol defended the city, being in a complete blockade. For almost three months they have been writing the story of a feat, which has no analogues in human history.
The appeal of the families of the defenders of Azovstal
The Association of Families of Azovstal Defenders appealed to the Red Cross and international media with a request to visit the colony in Olenovka. There, the Russians are holding captive more than 2,500 heroic warriors with whom there is no connection.
According to the relatives of the heroes, since the soldiers laid down their arms and surrendered, there has been no connection with them. According to the Geneva Convention, they have the right to call their relatives twice a week and report that everything is fine, but the Russians do not give them such an opportunity.
We constantly live the dream of meeting. We do not know what conditions they are in, whether they eat or they are not tortured. We know what methods the Russians can use. The defenders of Azovstal did not deserve this, they carried out the order and experienced what others do not represent. Now they need protection and help, – said the relatives of the heroes.
Sometimes our soldiers write “+” or “norms” to their relatives, but there is no more news about them. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov reported that they were alive and well, but without any details.
Relatives of the defenders of Azovstal recalled that the Red Cross was responsible for the evacuation and now must be present at the place of detention, to ensure that all rules and laws are followed.
“Monitoring commissions are needed. We ask The Red Cross and foreign media show courage and show what happens to the defenders of Azovstal in captivity,” the relatives of the heroes asked.
Defenders of Azovstal in captivity: what is known
- Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the defenders of Mariupol have defended the city in a complete blockade.
- Subsequently, they moved to Azovstal, which became the last outpost. Without food, water, medicines, under constant shelling and bombardment, the heroes managed to hold the line. On May 16, they received an order to lay down their arms and save their lives.
- The defenders of Azovstal were captured by the Russians, from where they were supposed to be exchanged, and the infidels have not yet fulfilled their promise. More than 2.5 thousand heroes are in the colony in Olenovka, what conditions they have is unknown.
