Against the background of the announcement of partial mobilization in Russia, there are many men who are not ready to go into the trenches for real. They rushed to flee from their homeland. And if a number of countries restrict their entry, then others, Spain in particular, are not averse to sheltering Russians.
So Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez argued the decision by the fact that Madrid has shown solidarity and support for the Ukrainians since the beginning of a full-scale invasion. Therefore, Russians fleeing the regime should also be able to obtain European visas.
Doors will be opened for Russians
He stressed that Europeans should not take away the opportunity of Russians to leave the aggressor country, but on the contrary, they must leave the doors open for issuing visas to those who meet certain conditions.
We have nothing against the Russian people, and even more so against people who come out to protest with great courage, risking imprisonment and even their lives. Those who are trying to leave the country should be given the opportunity to do so, said José Manuel Albarez.
Note that among these Russians there are many people who actively supported Putin's policies until September 21, when the possibility of dying for him became real, not theoretical. As noted in the State Border Service, Spain has nothing against “the people who actively support the war in Ukraine and the killing of people, and have repeatedly called in social networks for even greater cruelty against peaceful Ukrainians.”
In addition, it is not worth forget about the behavior of Russians abroad, who are not averse to rushing at the Ukrainians. Thus, attacks on our citizens, for example, were recorded in France, Germany, Latvia, Sweden and other countries.
Spain's help to Ukrainians
The Spanish Foreign Minister stressed that his country had demonstrated its solidarity with the Ukrainians and provided the largest package of humanitarian aid ever provided to another country. According to the official, there are now 140 thousand Ukrainians in the country with refugee status, and the embassy in Kyiv is working “as a political gesture of strong support for the Zelensky government.”
In addition, Spain is helping Ukraine with weapons and military equipment.

It is designed to enable the Ukrainian army to protect its territorial integrity, its freedom, its sovereignty, its democracy and, above all, defenseless civilians. – Albarez noted.
Difficulties of Russians with traveling abroad
- Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly called on Western countries to restrict entry for Russians. This is necessary, in particular, in order to put pressure on Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
- These calls have found support in Poland, the Baltic countries and other states. On the contrary, Germany, France and several other EU countries opposed.
- However, the EU decided to suspend the visa facilitation agreement with Russia.
