Now we need to completely get rid of everything hostile, in particular, finally de-Russify our cities. There are many outstanding heroes in Ukraine, whose names we should long ago name the streets, squares and cities.
This was announced by the First Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Mykola Povoroznyk. He noted that the discussion on renaming metro stations, streets and so on continues in the Kiev City Council.
We have enough heroes of our own
He stressed that it is necessary to carefully consider the renaming of metro stations, streets, squares, as well as the dismantling of various monuments. Povoroznik noted that everything must be done correctly both from a scientific and legislative point of view.
We have enough of our heroes who have the right to have their names immortalized in the streets , squares, squares, parks of Ukrainian cities,” he said.
The renaming will continue
According to Povoroznyk, at the last meeting of the Kyiv City Council, the deputies have already made a number of decisions on renaming. It is noted that they were preliminarily prepared, in addition, they went through the appropriate procedure.
All other renamings of the Kyiv City Council will continue to be adopted session by session, Povoroznik added.
Peoples' friendship arch decommunized in Kyiv
On May 14, the Kiev City Council decided to decommunize the name of the Peoples' Friendship Arch. Now it will be called the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian people.
In addition, the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko noted that the city council approved more than 40 monuments and memorial signs that will be removed from the streets. According to him, they should be transferred to the museum of totalitarianism.
Klitschko added that they heard the opinions and criticism of the residents of the capital. In order not to make hasty decisions, the city authorities decided to involve specialists in the process of renaming. In particular, representatives of the Institute of National Remembrance and institutes of the Academy of Sciences, etc. will work on this.
