“We don’t need sanctions”: political strategist said whether Iran should be punished for cooperation with Russia

Iran is giving Russia weapons to wage a full-scale war against Ukraine. The best reaction of the West to this would not be the imposition of sanctions, but a symmetrical response.

This Channel 24 said political consultant Mikhail Sheitelman. He noted that earlier long-range missiles were not given to Ukraine, because Russia fought with its own weapons. But now the situation has changed.

What should be the reaction of the West

Sheitelman noted that Russia has acquired Iranian drones with a range of 1,000 kilometers. The aggressor country also buys missiles with a range of 700 km from Iran. That is, Moscow buys weapons from third countries in order to shoot at Ukraine.

It is logical that Ukraine should then also buy weapons from third countries, for example, from the USA and shoot at Russia . This will be a symmetrical answer. Why sanctions!?,” the political strategist emphasized.

That is, he explained, it is necessary that the United States give us missiles with a range of 700 kilometers and drones with a range of 1,000 kilometers.

And we'll beat them on the Russian energy infrastructure. What's the problem? And, of course, we will beat them at military facilities. We will be able to hit perfectly in Moscow, throughout the Moscow region. That is, for the most part of Russia,” Sheitelman said.

He added that with these missiles we will be able to destroy, for example, Russian bases and trains with mobilized people. And then they won't come to the front.

How Iran explains the appearance of drones in Russia

Sheitelman noted that Ukraine has evidence of Russian use of Iranian drones. In particular, it can show the USA the ones that were shot down.

I get it, they're all trying to play that kind of game right now. Yesterday, the game finally came to light when Iran claims it has not sold drones. He didn’t sell drones, but a set,” he said.

That is, the political strategist emphasized, this is called – they didn’t supply drones to Russia.

“Now the situation is fundamentally different”

Sheitelman said that earlier long-range missiles were not given to Ukraine, because Russia fought with its weapons. However, now the situation has changed.

Now the situation is fundamentally different. Today, Russia buys weapons from Iran and shoots at Ukraine,” the political strategist explained.

He noted that he now sees no possible arguments from the West not to sell missiles of such a range to Ukraine. After all, Russia buys weapons from a third country.

Sheitelman recalled that the West had not previously provided Ukraine with weapons, in particular the same HIMARS, until President Volodymyr Zelensky began to speak tough enough.

I think that our Ministry of Defense a few days ago, having learned that it was going to supply missiles, contacted the US Department of Defense and asked for solid-propellant missiles of the same range. – he said.

The political strategist emphasized that it is important for us that these are solid-propellant ground-to-ground missiles. Ukraine, having received them, will hit only military targets. And, if from drones, then only infrastructure facilities will be hit.

What is known about the supply of weapons by Iran to Russia

  • Iran provides aggressor country with kamikaze drones, with which it attacks peaceful Ukrainian cities. However, the Iranian authorities insist that they allegedly do not supply weapons to any of the parties.
  • The Foreign Ministry officially called Iran an accomplice to Russia's aggression. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba noted that Tehran bears full responsibility for the destruction of relations with Ukraine.
  • Vladimir Zelensky suggested that Russia offered something important to Iran. Probably talking about one of the three important options for the country.
