The appointment of the Ukrainian ambassador to Georgia is at the final stage. However, relations between Tbilisi and Kiev are quite tense, in particular, because the current government of our allied country is actually killing Mikheil Saakashvili and playing along with Russia.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmitry Kuleba, spoke about the appointment of the ambassador of our state to Georgia and, in general, about relations between the two countries. This is reported by Channel 24 with reference to the broadcast of the national telethon.
Ukraine invested a lot in relations with Georgia
According to Kuleba, although the process of appointing an ambassador is already at the final stage, when the diplomat will go to Georgia is already a political issue. Actually, the presence or absence of an ambassador is always a political signal.
The Foreign Minister also assured that Kyiv is striving to establish close diplomatic ties with Tbilisi.
We didn't do anything. They did not lift a finger at all in order to spoil relations with Georgia. On the contrary, we have invested a lot in developing our relations,” Kuleba stated.
However, he added that although the relations between the Georgian and Ukrainian peoples are friendly, this cannot be said about the relations of our state with the government of Georgia. The reason for this, in particular, is the case of Mikheil Saakashvili, who, as the head of the Foreign Ministry notes, is now simply being killed.
“I will fight for Saakashvili”
According to Kuleba, it is clear that the issue of the case against Saakashvili is especially acute for the Ukrainian authorities. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs promised to defend his rights, as well as other people who have a Ukrainian passport.
We must call a spade a spade. Georgian authorities are slowly killing Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili. They can think whatever they want about him as a politician. But for me, as for the head of the Foreign Ministry, he is a citizen of Ukraine. I will fight for him,” the minister said.
In addition, he noted that there are questions and problems concerning the relations between the Georgian government and Russia. However, Ukraine has enough communication channels with Tbilisi to keep in touch and try to solve them.
