Ukraine and its partners must do everything to make Russia hear us. The President stated this in an interview with Italian journalists.
The evacuation of our military depends on the decision of Russia. Zelensky stressed that the Ukrainian authorities are doing everything possible to get people out of Azovstal.
To be honest, we do not want to leave even the dead people there. Their parents, wives, husbands are waiting for them. These are stories for us, but for these families it is always in their hearts. Therefore, we must fight for each and every one, alive or not, the politician said.
Zelensky talks about Azovstal at all venues
Ukraine passed information to Russia about the evacuation of the wounded. For this, the mechanism of accession of a third state has already been used. Therefore, now Israel, Switzerland and Turkey are also working on evacuation negotiations.
On May 13, Zelensky spoke by phone with Finnish President Sauli Niinostio. The politician promised that he would call the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, to discuss the evacuation of the Ukrainian military.
I spoke with all leaders and at all sites to help our military. Don't want to let go? We are ready to change them. Do you want to release the wounded? We are ready to change them. Let us take out the dead, let us take out the wounded. Don't kill the living. For this is war and there are rules of war,” Zelensky said.
The politician stressed that in a situation where the territory is blocked, and the Ukrainian army cannot reach it, the question of dialogue arises. Therefore, whether Kyiv wants it or not, it must still communicate with the Russian side.
The President also thanked the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross for escorting the civilians from Azovstal. Now, according to Zelensky, the organizations are ready to help with the military.
“We are all ready. Issues in Russia,” the Ukrainian leader stressed.
