Preparing an agreement on security guarantees for the transitional period of joining NATO: details of Venislavsky

< p _ngcontent-sc89="" class="news-annotation">Ukraine, together with international partners, is working on a bilateral treaty that would provide security guarantees during the transitional period of NATO membership. It is too early to talk about the results, but the process continues.

This Channel 24 was told by the presidential representative in the Verkhovna Rada Fyodor Venislavsky. According to him, this is a parallel bilateral process, which is supervised by the head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak and former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

We are talking about parallel but related things. In the final version, they will lead to the fact that Ukraine will be part of NATO. And, perhaps, we will develop an agreement on security guarantees for the transition period,” Venislavsky noted.

The document has already been handed over to diplomats from 30 countries

Venislavsky notes that the relevant draft treaty has already been submitted to representatives of 30 NATO member states. Prior to this, Ukraine held a series of negotiations with some members of the organization.

He is convinced that the document can become not only the basis for security guarantees for Ukraine, but also for other potential representatives of such a collective agreement. Interestingly, in private communication, not all representatives of states are convinced that NATO will immediately apply the fifth article in response to a potential attack by Russia.

And the treaty proposed by Ukraine introduces clear, legally verified actions against potential aggression from Russia or other states.

Ideally, this will be a multilateral international treaty of a new format with specific actions in response to threats that arise or arise for the territorial integrity of the countries participating in this treaty, – emphasized Venislavsky.

Add, Ukraine appealed to the UN court because of the annexation of the temporarily occupied territories, which was carried out by Russia after the fake “referenda”. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba asks the court to consider this case as soon as possible.

Earlier, President Vladimir Zelensky said that the head of the Kremlin, Putin, does not know what honor and dignity are. Ukraine is ready for negotiations with Russia, but with another president.
