Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov summed up the war that Russia launched against Ukraine. And he warned that very difficult weeks await us.
May 9 was perceived in Ukraine as a certain “point” in the war that Russia started. Knowing the fixation of the occupiers on “sacred dates”, one would expect provocations on this day. But the Russians did what they had done before – rocket attacks on civilians.
Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov summed up the 78 days of the war. During this time, a lot has changed – both on the battlefield, there and in the international arena. Ukraine has also changed.
The strategic defeat of Russia
Aleksey Reznikov notes that the Russians started the war against Ukraine with the idea of ”taking Kyiv in three days.” But the Ukrainians fought back.
The plan had to be adjusted. And the next period was the victory until May 9th. And here it was already planned to capture the South and East of Ukraine. And here, too, the enemy failed.
Thanks to the mass heroism of our soldiers, the solidarity of Ukrainians, and international support, Ukraine survived. The defenders of Mariupol – the marines, guardsmen, in particular, from the Azov regiment, the Mariupol battalion of the Troops, border guards, police officers, intelligence officers, security service soldiers – bought time for us and saved many lives. – said Alexei Reznikov.
Residents of other cities also offered considerable resistance to the enemy. It is not surprising that the title of the City of Heroes is being introduced in Ukraine.
“Thus, before May 9, Russia received a strategic defeat – it was unable to destroy the Ukrainian State through military intervention and a change of power to Russian apostates. We forced it to reduce the scale of goals to the operational-tactical level,” the Minister of Defense emphasized.
< p> Now Ukraine enters a new phase of the war. And it will be long-term.
“Extremely difficult weeks await us. No one can say for sure how many there will be. During this period, we will hold the defense mainly with our own forces against the aggressor enraged with fury. Until heavy foreign weapons balance the forces and will provide a break in favor of Ukraine, time will pass,” Oleksiy Reznikov said.

Western support and sanctions against Russia
The Minister of Defense also noted the support that the West provides to Ukraine. Although it was also difficult to achieve it. After all, Ukraine asked for heavy weapons – aviation, artillery, tanks and armored vehicles of Western models. They are much more effective than Soviet weapons.
This “persuasion” of Western partners continued every day. And yet it gave results. Ukraine has already received American M777 howitzers of 155 mm caliber. And they are already at the front, where they help to destroy infidels.
Separately, Alexei Reznikov also noted the meetings of defense ministers of more than 40 countries at the Ramstein base in Germany.
The free world, shocked by the atrocities of the Russian invaders on our land, has set a new common goal: not to stop, but to defeat the Kremlin. This fully meets our aspirations, because our goal is to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders. Alexey Reznikov emphasized
Also, the law on Lend-Lease was signed in the United States. And more and more sanctions are being imposed on Russia.
“The growing pressure of sanctions on Russia and the increase in foreign aid to Ukraine in the next few months should create conditions under which the Kremlin will finally lose the chance to achieve at least some success. Then a new window of opportunity for Ukraine should appear,” the head of the Defense Ministry is convinced.
How Ukraine is preparing for a long-term war
But preparations for a long war continue in Ukraine. Oleksiy Reznikov assures that “processes have been launched that will ensure the build-up of Ukraine's defense potential.” The Ministry of Defense focuses on the need to provide 1 million people who will overcome the enemy.
“As part of the course determined by the Government, we are focusing on stimulating Ukrainian manufacturers. Our manufacturers, providing the necessary quality of bulletproof vests, helmets, uniforms clothes, shoes, etc. are already loaded with orders until the end of the year, there is a clear delivery schedule,” Alexey Reznikov said.
But he also noted the volunteers. It was thanks to them that in the first weeks of the war, “acute problematic issues were closed.” At the end of April, every second bulletproof vest was delivered to the Ukrainian defenders by volunteers.
Consequently, the “strategic break in favor of Ukraine” continues now. However, this process is not instantaneous and will last for a certain time. But in the long run, Russia's defeat is inevitable.
