The SUPPORT AZOV project was presented in Kyiv, the goal of which is to direct efforts to urgent needs in the fight against the enemy. In particular, to all areas of assistance to combat units, families of the dead, wounded and captured soldiers.

movement, visited by journalists of the site 24 channel.

Project goals

Oleg Petrenko, head of the SUPPORT AZOV project, a veteran of the Azov Regiment and People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 8th convocation, noted that without the help of volunteers, popular mobilization, foreign donors and the diaspora, the formation of effective combat-ready units would be impossible.

According to him, the state does not have enough resources to fully undergo the process of rehabilitation of seriously wounded defenders. There is also not enough resource to ensure that the families of all our heroes receive the support of the state they deserve.

a convenient platform for all those who are not indifferent, for the Azov units, for the wounded, for those who are now in captivity from the Mariupol garrison,โ€ he said.

According to Petrenko, there are three main options for the project:

  • support the fighters;
  • support the wounded;
  • support the families of defenders from Azovstal.

Rehabilitation and support for families

Head of the Azov Regiment Patronage Service Elena Tolkacheva said that the support of volunteers and ordinary citizens of Ukraine is very important for the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.

We are all involved, we are all at war, we are all one great nation that is at war with the enemy. Only thanks to our solidarity we were able to help a very large number of the wounded, especially those wounded guys who were taken by helicopters from Azovstal, she added.

Thanks to the support of people, thanks to the fact that they agreed and provided material assistance, more than 50 fighters have already been put on their feet. And they are already returning to duty – even those guys who lost their limbs.

The complex rehabilitation of amputees or children who simply lost the ability to move and walk normally required very serious and professional assistance. Unfortunately, due to the scale of the fighting, military hospitals and civilian hospitals are overcrowded.

We took on this responsibility and were able to unload these hospitals and take some of our soldiers under our care and provide them with quality assistance. Almost all the guys wounded in Mariupol and near Kyiv are very young. It is very important for them to get back on track. This requires fast, high-quality rehabilitation and proper treatment,โ€ Tolkacheva emphasized.

In most cases, fighters do not express a desire to go abroad for rehabilitation or prosthetics, because they feel uncomfortable when there is a war going on at home. Therefore, a Ukrainian voluntary hospital was created in Western Ukraine, which is ready to operate and transfer them for rehabilitation as soon as possible.

In addition, families who have gone abroad, taken their children or found refuge in the West of Ukraine need support. They also need to be placed and given some means, although minimal, so that they can live. After all, many of them ended up right on the street due to the fact that they lived in Mariupol in the garrison with their men, she said.

Tolkacheva added that “our personal duty is to take everyone to the last, as well as to take them out of captivity and provide normal adequate medical care to the guys who are wounded.”

According to her, almost all the guys in captivity were injured. Some of them were wounded twice, almost all of them have shell shocks of various shapes.

The event also showed a video report of the preliminary volunteer activities of the project, the appeal of the military from the front. A fundraiser was also announced for the first targeted collection called “Night Ghosts”, the purpose of which is to help Ukrainian defenders in night operations.
