What is known about the evacuation of the defenders of Mariupol

On May 17, the Ministry of Defense reported that the evacuation of the military from the Azovstal plant had begun. 53 seriously wounded fighters were taken to medical facilities in Novoazovsk, which was occupied in 2014. Another 200 of our defenders were delivered by a humanitarian corridor to the captured Olenevka. Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said that in order to return the heroes home, Kyiv would exchange prisoners with Moscow. The authorities urged the Ukrainians to be silent so as not to harm our defenders.

On May 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that more than 2,500 defenders of Mariupol were being held captive by Russians. The head of state assured that it is not beneficial for the aggressor state to use military torture against us, because they have become “public prisoners.” Ekaterina Prokopenko, the wife of Denis Prokopenko, the commander of the Azov Regiment, noted that the department takes the issue of the exchange of fighters as seriously as possible. Therefore, she believes that the intelligence officers will be able to fire her husband.

Pay attention! On May 25, it became known that Denis Prokopenko was able to call his wife by phone. The warrior said that they are kept in satisfactory conditions. According to the regiment commander, everything is fine with him and his brothers. The conversation of the spouses quickly ended, so that the military man did not have time to tell more details.
