The World Boxing Council (WBC) proposes to increase the number of judges for the fight between Alexander Usik and Tyson Fury from three to five or even six.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman believes that since the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion is very important for boxing, more judges should be introduced .

In a commentary on Sky Sports, he said that the fight needs to be judged by “five or six referees”. Adding: This is my recommendation. Let's see.

— Boxing — This is a sport in which change is very difficult. We are traditionalists… We proposed using five or six judges. We have a remote grading system that is used to train and evaluate referees. They score live on the WBC system that we developed. We have found that the more judges who score a fight, the less likely it is to make a wrong decision, — said Suleiman.

According to him, the chance of an incorrect count is minimized if there are more judges. He said that the fight Usik — Fury is the biggest fight in 25 years and “we have to try to do our best”.

Fight Usik – Fury

The fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usik was supposed to take place on February 17, but it was canceled due to an injury the Briton suffered during sparring on February 2.

After the cancellation of the fight, the Ukrainian’s manager Egis Klimas called the Briton a “fucking coward” who “will do everything not to meet Usyk.”

On February 5, it became known that the Usyk-Fury fight in Saudi Riyadh was postponed to May 18, 2024.
