The US is working to shut down Wagner's operations around the world. The State Department is watching with concern how Prigozhin's company seeks to recruit mercenaries from Serbia.
Derek Cholle, adviser to the US State Department, announced this. He expressed his concerns during talks in Belgrade with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
“We have seen that the Wagner group is seeking to recruit soldiers from Serbia and other countries, and we believe that this should not be allowed,” he said.
I don't know if there is concern (in Serbia – Channel 24), we have talked about our concerns and we are looking forward to working with the government here in Belgrade and other places where Wagner is active to put an end to their activities – he added.
Cholle also called on Serbia to impose sanctions against Russia.
“We believe that countries should subscribe to sanctions due to the fact that Russia’s actions should not only be condemned, but also punished. Russia is waging a brutal, unjustified war against Ukraine every day. We must make it clear that such behavior is unacceptable,” – he explained.
The United States has already expressed concern
Note that Prigozhin boasted of his presence in Serbia, which never joined the international sanctions against Russia for its war against Ukraine. A month ago, representatives of the VAT opened an organization in Serbia called the Orly Russian-Serbian Center. The organization plans to informationally confront “Russian liberals” living in Serbia and “engaged in anti-Russian activities.”
According to the Western media, the PIK in Serbia betrays the growing tension on the border with Kosovo. The US government has previously expressed concern about how the Wagnerites interfere in the internal politics of sovereign states, violate the rights of people and plunder their mineral wealth.
