A Wagnerian who sought asylum in Norway was detained while trying to escape to Russia

Former PMC Wagner mercenary Andrei Medvedev was detained by Norwegian police. The man had previously fled Russia to Norway.

The Barents Observer reports that the man was detained in the village of Grense Jakobselv, near the Russian border, as he tried to cross the border illegally.

The Norwegian police confirmed that the man had been detained, but did not specify his name. Journalists are sure that we are talking about Medvedev. After all, a few hours before the incident, he told a correspondent in the city of Kirkenes that he intended to return to Russia and was looking for a person who would give him a ride to the border.

He explained his decision with the fear that he would be extradited to Ukraine. In his opinion, it is safer for him to return back to Russia.

War criminal Andrei Medvedev participated in the war against Ukraine in the ranks of the militants of the Wagner PMC. In winter he fled to Norway. He claimed that he was ready to testify about the now deceased leader of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, accusing him of torture and murder.

The Norwegian authorities have not made a decision on whether to grant him political asylum. In May he was arrested in Sweden, because he was not allowed to stay in countries other than Norway while his asylum application was being considered.

In May he stated that he had decided to return to Russia, but at the same time in July, in a conversation with The Barents Observer, he said that he was not going to Russia.
