The President of Serbia announced the victory of the ruling party in early parliamentary elections. The Serbian Progressive Party has been in power since 2012. However, the opposition announced vote fraud.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic dissolved parliament on November 1 and set early parliamentary and local elections for December 17, 2023 elections. The previous general elections in Serbia were held in April 2022, with the next parliamentary elections scheduled for 2026.

Allegation of violation

Based on vote counts at individual polling stations, pollsters Ipsos and CeSID expected SNS to receive 46.2% of the vote, with the center-left opposition Serbia Against Violence coming in second with 23.2% of the vote.

Serbia's ties to Russia

  • On December 10, it became known that Serbia and Bulgaria had completed construction gas pipeline, the purpose of which is to reduce dependence on Russian gas. The constructed pipeline has a length of 170 km. It stretches between the Serbian city of Nis and the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia.
