Vote of no confidence: Slovakia has seen a sharp change in attitude towards Prime Minister Fico Aleksandra Sadovaya

In Slovakia, opposition forces have agreed for the first time on a joint event to express a vote of no confidence in the government of Robert Fico. They all agree that such a policy of the Prime Minister is a threat to the national interests of the state.

Such a joint initiative of the opposition forces is a historic moment for Slovakia. This was noted to 24 Kanal by the political scientist from Slovakia Alexander Duleba.

A historic moment

Alexander Duleba noted that the vote of no confidence in Fico is initiated by all opposition parties. There was a problem between the three main opposition forces: Progressive Slovakia, Freedom and Solidarity, and the Christian Democratic Movement, as well as the party of former Prime Minister Igor Matovič, which has support at 6%.

This is the first time, this is a historic moment, that all opposition parties have already agreed that this is a threat to Slovakia. Fico's policy, what he is doing now in relations with the European Union, the fact that he was in Moscow – this was a “red line”. He crossed it when he went to Putin at the end of 2024. The conflict with Zelensky, the conflict with Ukraine. What Fico is doing is a threat to Slovakia's national interests. Both in the West and in the East, he stressed.

Four MPs from the coalition party “Voice”, the political force of Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, are speaking out with the opposition and criticizing Fico. If they support the vote of no confidence, it could actually be adopted.

Recall that Robert Fico invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to a meeting in Slovakia near the state border with Ukraine to discuss stopping the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory. The Ukrainian leader responded: “Ok. Come to Kyiv on Friday.” Vice Speaker of the Slovak Parliament Andrej Danko said that the Slovak Prime Minister will not travel to Kyiv on Friday, January 17.

In addition, Robert Fico earlier called Volodymyr Zelensky a “beggar” and a “blackmailer” who “walks around Europe begging others for money.”
