The media recently wrote that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz blocked the appointment of the current head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to the post of NATO Secretary General.

Her candidacy was allegedly proposed by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. However, according to Die Welt, Scholz refused because he considered the position too important “to be entrusted to a Christian Democrat from Germany”.
