For the first time Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a volunteer from the Netherlands has died. The life of 55-year-old Ron Vogelard ended on May 4.
The man entered the Ukrainian Foreign Legion and was fired upon by artillery near Kharkov.
A volunteer who served with Ron in the same unit reported that he died immediately after the shelling.
He never regretted his decision. He was happy and felt that he was in the right place. His commander said: “He died a hero,” said the daughter of the deceased.

How foreigners fight for Ukraine
According to De Telegraaf, in mid-March, about 70 citizens of the Netherlands who decided to take part in the war were on the territory of Ukraine.
Previously, it was known about the death of at least 15 foreign citizens who left to fight for Ukraine. They were from Georgia and Belarus, and on April 29 it became known about the death of British citizen Scott Sibley, who fought in a foreign legion created at the initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
We add that in Ukraine visa-free regime was previously introduced for all foreigners who are ready to join the International Legion. The desire to fight for the independence of our country was expressed by volunteers from Poland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania and many other countries. In particular, according to the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States, more than 3,000 Americans have applied to join the Legion (as of March 8).
To come to Ukraine and fight side by side with Ukrainian soldiers, foreigners need to:
- apply to the Ukrainian Embassy in your state with the intention to join the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine,
- clarify what documents you need to have and write an application for entry into the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Upon arrival in Ukraine, you will be able to sign a contract and go to fight against the Russian occupiers.
