The Presidents of Poland and Lithuania made a working visit to Ukraine on February 23, a few hours before the full-scale invasion. Then Duda and Nauseda came to support Zelensky.
Andrzej Duda said thateveryone knew that Russia would attack. Therefore, on February 23, he and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda went to Kiev to demonstrate the unity of the countries.
What Duda says about Zelensky
We met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was assured of support. It was very important and very touching for me,” Duda shared his memories.
Zelensky at that moment was sure that the attack would happen. He told Duda that perhaps they were seeing each other for the last time. Zelensky also argued that Ukraine would resist the last drop of blood.
Duda noted that relations between him and Zelensky had been strongly entrenched since the beginning of the war. “I respect him very much, I admire him as a president, because he is ready to give his life for Ukraine,” the President of Poland stressed.
By the way, he said that their friendship was born a few weeks before the invasion of the Vistula, where Zelensky arrived. Then the presidents of the countries met and, according to Duda, they had a very sincere and personal conversation.
“He explained to me how he became president, how he sees his mission and how he sees himself. This brought us closer. Memories are all still evoke strong feelings in me, which, perhaps, someday I should put on paper, because it is very important from a historical point of view,” the head of Poland said.
Will Poland provide fighter jets to Ukraine: in short
- According to Andrzej Duda, sending fighter jets to Ukraine will create a “serious problem” for Poland itself. If the Polish Air Force has less than 50 aircraft, “it will not be enough and more will be needed.”
- The Head of State explained that the F-16 combat aircraft require very serious maintenance, so “it is not enough just to send a few F- 16 for Ukraine”.
- Poland is a member of NATO and therefore any decision on the supply of fighters, as the president explained, should be a general one, and not a decision of one country.
