In particular, Pompeo expressed gratitude to the Lithuanian side for its “leading role” in ensuring the independence and territorial integrity of Belarus, as well as respecting the democratic rights of the people of this country.
It is noted that the statement was made following a meeting between Pompeo and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius. In addition to Belarus, politicians discussed NATO, the situation in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko named Lithuania among the satellites of the United States, who allegedly prepared protests in Belarus for ten years. The tactics were built “according to the classic American textbook of color revolutions,” he argued.
Presidential elections in Belarus took place on August 9. According to official figures, the incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko won over 80 percent of the vote. Many residents of the republic did not recognize the voting results, after which massive protests began throughout the country.
