US warns that mining Strait of Hormuz would be suicide for Iran

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Iran's possible mining of the Strait of Hormuz would provoke a serious reaction from the international community and would have catastrophic consequences for Iran itself.

Rubio said this on the Face the Nation show.

The Strait of Orum: Why is its blockade dangerous?

“If they mine the Strait of Hormuz, the Chinese will pay a huge price, and every other country in the world will pay a huge price. We will too… It would be suicidal on their part, because I think the whole world would turn against them if they did that,” Rubio said.

The Secretary of State stressed that blocking one of the world's most important maritime trade arteries would impact all countries, including Iran's allies.

Earlier it became known that the Iranian parliament approved the closure of the Strait of Hormuz after the US launched strikes on the country's nuclear facilities.

However, the state security agency has yet to make a final decision on the implementation of this plan.

Let us recall that on Sunday, June 22, the United States struck three key nuclear facilities in Iran.

The Natanz nuclear enrichment complex 250 km south of Tehran, the secret Fordow facility near the mountain town of Qom, and the nuclear research complex in Isfahan, opened with Chinese support in 1984, were attacked.

World leaders have reacted mixed to the United States' move.

Most politicians called on Iran to de-escalate and negotiate. However, there were those who supported the US position.
