Kabul authorities said last week that the United States had released an Afghan convicted of drug trafficking and extremism in exchange for two U.S. citizens held in Afghanistan.

Afghan officials said Tuesday that the man, Khan Mohammad, had flown to Kabul after his release. A Taliban spokesman confirmed that two Americans were released in the swap.

One of the Americans released is Ryan Corbett, who had been held captive by the Taliban since 2022. The other American citizen released is William McKenty.
