Masoud Pezeshkian has become the new president of Iran. The US State Department has already explained its position regarding the new Iranian leader.

The US State Department does not expect “fundamental changes” after the inauguration of the new president of Iran. They recalled all the problems that this country has caused.

What the US says about the new president of Iran

We do not expect the election of a new president to lead to any fundamental changes in the direction of Iran, or that they will lead to additional or greater respect for the basic human rights of its citizens. As before, we will judge the Iranian leadership by its actions, not by its words or even by its statements about moderation or a desire to establish better ties, said U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel.

The American official recalled Iran's “numerous escalations in all areas, including its nuclear escalation, as well as its refusal to cooperate with the IAEA.” Therefore, he noted that in the future, Washington will take into account actions, not words.

“If there is a desire to demonstrate seriousness or a new approach, there are certainly some immediate actions that they could take, namely, to begin constructively cooperating with the IAEA,” Vedant Patel noted at a briefing.

Back in early July, 69-year-old Masoud Pezeshkian won the second round of the presidential elections in Iran. He is a supporter of reforms and previously promised to “open the country to the world.” And today, July 30, he will take the oath of office in the country's parliament.
