The United States is considering providing Ukraine with medium-range cruise bombs for its new F-16 fleet as part of a military aid package.

The $375 million package is expected to be formally announced on Monday. Politico reports on this.

The United States may transfer Joint Standoff Weapon to Ukraine

The Joint Standoff Weapon, a cruise bomb already used by the U.S. Air Force and Navy and several allies, can hit targets more than 70 miles (110 to 130 kilometers) away.

The package will also include artillery ammunition, rockets, and air defense missiles, according to two U.S. officials and a person familiar with the matter. At the same time, according to them, the contents of the package may change before the official announcement.

Interesting! Given the information in the public domain, the maximum mass of the AGM-158 warhead is 450 kilograms. The bomb is made using Stealth technology. This bomb has a “rocket” designation, because with the addition of a rocket engine, it can be turned into a cruise missile with a range of up to 560 kilometers.

Politico writes that the new missiles, although they do not have the range that Kyiv asked for, will still give Ukrainian pilots a new powerful weapon to fight Russian troops advancing in the east of the country.
