Nuland spoke about security assurances/Channel 24 Collage
In Washington they say that they are negotiating with official Kyiv about the format of support in the future. At the same time, in the US they are not talking about security guarantees, but about “assurances”.
This was stated in an interview by US Deputy Secretary of State for Security Affairs Victoria Nuland. She noted that all negotiations currently underway are not public.
The United States is negotiating “security assurances”
I can only say that the United States is negotiating with Kyiv about the security assurances that Ukraine can receive,” Nuland said. Nuland replied that it was exactly as she said. The deputy can't say more publicly.
Let's note that the Budapest Memorandum was talking about “security assurances”. Then, in exchange for a nuclear-free status for Ukraine, they were provided by the United States, Great Britain and Russia.
Johnson clarified what guarantees Ukraine can receive
Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that Ukraine is unlikely to will be able to receive such security guarantees as provided by the fifth article of NATO. Most likely, we will talk about weapons assistance, training and intelligence information.
