The US has announced an immediate end to all trade talks with Canada and threatened new tariffs following Ottawa's decision to impose a digital services tax on US tech companies.
US President Donald Trump stated this in a message on his page on the Truth Social social network.
US Halts Talks with Canada: What Caused the Trade Conflict
“We just received information that Canada, a country that is very difficult to trade with, especially because of years of tariffs of up to 400% on our dairy products, has announced a digital services tax on American tech companies. This is a direct and blatant attack on our country,” Trump said.
He noted that the Canadian initiative follows the actions of the European Union, which also imposes taxes on American digital companies.

“Given this outrageous tax, we are ending all trade negotiations with Canada effective immediately. We will notify Canada of the tariff it will pay to do business with the United States within the next seven days,” the US President concluded.
It should be noted that this year Canada is actively expanding cooperation with the European Union. This is happening against the backdrop of worsening relations between Ottawa and Washington after Donald Trump came to power in the United States.
