US President Joe Biden on Sunday, December 8, responded for the first time to the fall of the Assad regime in Syria. In his speech, he also said that the United States carried out airstrikes in Syria to prevent the Islamic State from regaining its position.

The US president also called the uprising in Syria “an act of justice.” The New York Times and AP wrote about this following Joe Biden's address, Channel 24 reports.

The US predicted that ISIS could take advantage of the fall of the Assad government.

“We are acutely aware of the fact that ISIS will try to take advantage of any vacuum to restore its ability… We will not allow that to happen,” Biden said.

He reported that on December 8, the US Army carried out dozens of precision strikes on Islamic State camps and militants.

According to the US Department of Defense, we are talking about more than 75 targets. Combat casualties are currently being assessed, and civilian casualties are unknown. Operations to degrade ISIS capabilities will continue.

Biden also added that the United States and its allies have been able to weaken Syria's supporters, namely Russia, Iran, and Hezbollah. At the same time, the United States will “remain vigilant” against Syrian rebels, because some of them have “their own dark history of terrorism and human rights abuses.”

“We call on all parties in Syria to protect civilians, especially Syrian minorities, respect international military norms, and work to achieve a resolution that includes a political settlement,” the U.S. Department of Defense said.
