The US called on Biden to grant Poland permission to shoot down missiles over Ukraine Dmitry Usik

Bipartisan Helsinki Commission leaders ask US to allow Poland to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine. They made this request to President Joe Biden.

This was reported by The Hill.

A call to allow Poland to shoot down missiles

Republican Joe Wilson and Democrat Steve Cohen are reported to have sent a letter to Biden asking for authority to “intercept and neutralize missiles over Ukraine, particularly those threatening to approach Polish airspace.”

The request comes as Poland seeks to use its air defense shields, and possibly expand them, which would protect their skies from Russian missiles but would also help Ukraine in protection, the publication writes.

The Hill writes that closing the Ukrainian skies to Russian missiles is one of the biggest challenges of the entire full-scale war. They recalled the incident in November 2022, when two Polish farmers died as a result of a falling munition.

Poland, represented by Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, had previously proposed a scheme to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine. However, it did not receive support from then NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
