Hacker attack on the Central Bank of the Russian Federation
On July 29, the target of hackers from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense was the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (Bank of Russia). The special operation, according to unofficial information, was carried out as part of the largest DDOS attack on Russian financial institutions in a week.
As a result, the resources of the main bank of the Russian Federation are working intermittently or are completely unavailable.
The Central Bank of the Russian Federation acknowledges the fact of a cyberattack and the increase in the intensity of the hacker attack.
In addition, it is now known that Russians cannot use the online services of Zenit Bank and Gazprombank.
In addition, the lack of stable Internet and communications complicates the situation, because the largest providers of telecommunications services are also subject to systematic cyberattacks.
In particular, we are talking about a cyber attack on MTS — its users have not been able to fully use the services for three days already.
Train derailment in the Russian Federation
On July 29, in the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation a passenger train traveling from Kazan to Adler derailed. About 100 people were injured in the accident.
This happened near the city of Kotelniki due to a truck that drove onto a crossing.
According to preliminary information, eight cars derailed. There were more than 800 people in the train.
There is no official information on the dead and injured yet. However, various Russian media outlets report 100 injured and at least two dead.
The driver of the KamAZ that collided with the train has been hospitalized – he is in serious condition.
Explosion at a chemical plant near Germany
On July 29, a powerful explosion occurred at BASF's largest chemical plant in Ludwigshafen, leaving 14 workers slightly injured.
The fire that followed the explosion was quickly extinguished.
Eyewitnesses saw a huge cloud of black smoke over the plant.
Elevated levels of hydrocarbons were recorded at the BASF plant and in nearby areas.
At the same time, the plant's administration assured that the emissions did not pose a danger to plant workers or local residents.
2024 Olympics and Sabotage in France
In France, after damage to infrastructure on railway lines on the first day of the Olympic Games unknown persons disabled the equipment of telecom operators.
The 2024 Olympics telecom provider was not affected by the attack, Axios Local reports.
The attackers' actions caused “local” impacts on customers who use fiber-optic internet, mobile communications, and landline phones.
At the 2024 Olympics, Ukrainian judoka Daria Bilodid made an unfortunate end to her performance in the 1/8 finals. Before that, she finished the fight against her opponent from Kiribati Nera Tibwa in 5 seconds.
It should be noted that two more male judokas from Ukraine also finished their performances in the 1/8 finals at the Olympic Games.
In turn, Ukrainian fencer Olga Kharlan reached the semi-finals of the individual sabre tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
