According to InformNapalm, Polyakov commanded the 14th Separate Special Forces Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces (military unit No. 74854). The unit was considered elite, and before the invasion of Ukraine, he fought almost without losses.
In May 2022, he was in Izyum, Kharkiv region. In October and November, the brigade suffered heavy losses, first in the Kharkiv region, and then in the Donetsk region. It is likely that the servicemen of this brigade were also involved in war crimes in the Kyiv region at the beginning of the invasion, the report says.
Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, blogger Anatoly Shtefan also wrote about the death of the Russian brigade commander on his Twitter page. According to him, Polyakov died on February 2.
