UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths plans to travel to Kyiv and Moscow to negotiate a “humanitarian ceasefire.” This was stated by UN Secretary General António Guterres.
Antonio Guterres stressed that the “humanitarian ceasefire” will allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in the war zone.
A halt to hostilities will allow the delivery of critical humanitarian aid and allow the civilian population to move around safely. This will save lives, prevent suffering and protect civilians,” Guterres said.
The UN Secretary General expressed the hope that reaching agreements on a ceasefire will help overcome the global consequences of the war.
Gutteres also noted that about a thousand UN staff are now working in Ukraine in humanitarian centers in Lviv, Uzhgorod, Dnipro, Vinnitsa, Mukachevo, Chernivtsi, Lugansk and Donetsk.
