Evacuation of Mariupol residents from Azovstal: the main thing
- For more than a month, Ukraine and international partners have been trying to negotiate with Putin on the evacuation of people from the plant. Finally, the case moved forward thanks to international publicity and political pressure. On April 26, Putin “allowed” the UN to evacuate at least civilians from Azovstal.
- The first evacuation took place on May 1. Then more than a hundred civilians were taken out of the “Mariupol fortress” in Zaporozhye. For several days, for security reasons, the details of the transaction were kept secret.
- After the official announcement of the evacuation, on May 1, Russia began shelling the plant again, despite the ceasefire. Meanwhile, civilians remained at the plant who did not have time to evacuate. So, on May 2, two civilian women were killed during the bombardment of Azovstal. Later, about a hundred citizens were pulled out from under the rubble, including elderly people and children.
- On May 3, the Russians began to storm Azovstal, and on May 4 they already broke through to the plant.
- In parallel with these events in Berdyansk, infidels blocked most of the buses with evacuees from Mariupol. About 2,000 people were held hostage by the situation. The evacuation in Zaporozhye was disrupted due to shelling by infidels.
- On the morning of May 3, Vadim Boychenko said that part of the convoy was able to go to Zaporozhye.
- On the morning of May 6, UN Secretary General António Guterres said that in total about 500 residents of Mariupol were evacuated from the blocked city.
- On the same day, another 50 women, children and elderly people were taken from Azovstal. But the evacuation bus was waiting for them all day until the shelling stopped. The evacuation was very slow due to the fact that the Russians violated the “silence regime” and fought.
- Meanwhile, the Ukrainian authorities and the defenders of Mariupol are calling for the evacuation of not only civilians, but also Ukrainian fighters from the plant. At least the dead and the wounded. But on May 2, the UN stated that they could not take responsibility for the evacuation of the military or the wounded from Azovstal.
- At the same time, on May 6, activists created a petition demanding the UN, the Secretary General of the organization and regional leaders from all over world to begin an immediate procedure for the evacuation of civilians, all the wounded, the bodies of the dead and military personnel from the blocked Mariupol.
- At the same time, on May 7, it became known that the day before, on May 6, during the evacuation of civilians from Mariupol from “Azovstal” Russians killed 3 Ukrainian defenders, and another 6 were injured.
