UK's oldest resident shares the secret to a long life

UK's oldest resident John Tinniswood celebrated his 109th birthday in Southport and shared his advice on longevity with ITV .

According to the man, every Friday instead of dinner, he chooses fish and fries – Fish and Chips – a dish that is considered the unofficial national dish of Great Britain and is an integral part of British cuisine.

John Tinniswood was born in Liverpool the year the Titanic sank, survived two world wars, and was already 50 when The Beatles released their first hit. He also doesn't believe in worrying too much about the future or living “on the edge”.

“Never do more than you can. Otherwise, you can harm yourself either physically or mentally. So stay within your capabilities, ”stressed Tinniswood.

He declined to give any further advice, stating that we should let everyone do what they want.

The Briton currently lives in a nursing home, whose staff describe him as a witty man. This week he received the ninth telegram from the Queen. When he was handed the card, he asked if he could get a couple of hundred pounds for it and if the Queen had left her phone number.

Tinniswood married in 1942 and was married for 44 years when his wife died in 1986. In their marriage, they had a daughter, Susan.

Charlotte Hughes remains the oldest person ever recorded and lived in the UK. She was born under Queen Victoria and died in 1993 at the age of 115. Among UK men, the record is held by Henry Allingham, who died at the age of 113 in 2009.

Earlier, former British military man Keith Martin, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, said that his passion for golf and love for pies helped him live to such a solid age.
