Ukrenergo starts exporting electricity to Poland. In particular, daily auctions for the distribution of interstate ties have already been resumed.

Ukrenergo stressed that this is the first auction after the unification of the Ukrainian energy system with the ENTSO-E energy grid of continental Europe.

Note that there are no commercial exchanges between the Ukrainian and European energy systems that operate synchronously. Such a condition was stipulated by the Agreement between Ukrenergo and ENTSO-E for the duration of the trial period.

The first auction was held on March 28 2022 on the delivery date of March 30 (the actual export start date). The volume of the crossing, put up for auction, is 210 megawatts (hourly).

This will help Europe replace Russian gas

Ukrenergo says that the start of electricity exports will provide additional resources for the restoration and development of Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the conditions of war.

In general, the capacity between Ukraine and ENTSO-E is up to 2 thousand megawatts. For European countries, Ukrainian electricity offers great opportunities to replace Russian gas.

Our first step towards the European electricity market, which is becoming extremely important given the war in Ukraine. It means that the Ukrainian energy industry will receive additional funds to support its work in difficult times, and our European partners will receive a resource for partial replacement of Russian gas, – said the head of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytsky.

By the way, the American president Joe Biden gave a speech on March 26 in Poland. There, he stressed that Europe must abandon Russian fuel and get rid of dependence on Russia.
